THE BEST PODCAST ABOUT FOOTBALL REFEREEING ON SPOTIFY

Red or Yellow started when one of the hosts, Adam Humphreys, decided to come out of retirement after 8 years in the UK as a football referee and needed to refresh his knowledge of the Laws of the Game as he took up refereeing again in Australia having emigrated there in 2021. Adam is an auditory learner but couldn’t find a single resource to help referees learn and refresh their knowledge of the Laws of the Game. So Adam asked his long-time friend and fellow referee Ed Connell, to do a podcast with him on the Laws of the Game - and it has grown from there.

ADAM HUMPHREYS

Co-Host of Red Or Yellow and Semi-Professional Football Referee in Queensland, Australia. According to Ed, he spends too much time trying to look good before each recording.

Adam has now been refereeing for over 10 years and has refereed in the UK and Australia. In the UK he became a Level 4 Referee and was officiating on the Essex Senior League, before retiring from football for good. He then emigrated to Australia and took up Refereeing again in 2022, and now referees at a very high level there as well as being a full-time referee coach as well. He has refereed in the FA Cup and the FA Vase, at the Emirates Stadium, Upton Park, Kenilworth Road and was one of the first referees to ever referee at St. Georges Park. He is passionate about helping other referees improve in all areas of the game from grassroots to professional performance.

Ed is based in London and has been a referee for over 15 years. He first took up refereeing when the team he managed needed someone to pick up the whistle for their matches and hasn’t looked back since. Ed decided against climbing the Referee ladder in the UK and instead put his effort and time on the field into the LGBTQ+ side of the game, has been a strong advocate for affiliation working with the Government and footballing bodies on closer integration in football. He is passionate about helping everyone and anyone improve on their refereeing abilities regardless of background. He has refereed at three European Tournaments in his career and continues to referee on the LUL and GFSN National League whenever he gets the chance.
